What is a Maltipoo?

 The Maltipoo is a friendly breed that weighs on average between 10 to 12 pounds as an adult. It is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle. As such it is not considered a purebred dog.
The deliberate mating of existing and recognized breeds is historically not exceptional. Recently, including the Maltipoo - especially widespread in the US and enjoy as a family companion dogs, lap dogs and companion dogs increasingly popular.
But since it is not a recognized breed in Maltipoo (neither the American nor the Canadian Kennel Club lead the breed), there is also no specific breed standards and breeding guidelines.

Maltipoo = Maltese + Poodle

 When Maltipoo (also: Malt-A-Poos, or Malti-Poo Maltapoo), the two breeds Maltese and Poodle (engl. Poodle) are bred together - hence derives its name. The "race" was first bred in the USA. Other known hybrid dogs are e.g. the Labradoodle (cross between a Labrador and Poodle), the Schnoodle (Schnauzer and Poodle cross between), the Pekeapoo (a cross between poodles and Pekingese) or the Puggle (Pug cross between, Eng. Pug and Beagle).



The poodle in appearance occurs relatively frequently as a breeder of a hybrid dog. There are several reasons: Poodles are very intelligent, cheerful and docile dogs that bind tightly to their people. You do not have strong hunting sense and are very friendly in dealing with other dogs and people. Another plus point that one makes in crossbreeding with the poodle advantage is that this breed is not subject to seasonal change of coat and therefore does not shed. In addition, Poodle - especially the smaller versions, such as the Toy- or Toy Poodle - a relatively high life expectancy.

Just like the poodle also includes the Maltese to the group of so-called Companion and Toy Dogs. He is a very small, white dog with long silky fur. With a shoulder height of about 28 - 35 cm and a weight of 3 - 5 kg Maltipoos are certainly one of the small dog breeds and dwarf breeds. By combining Poodle and Maltese's coat is about medium long, more or less curled and feels silky and fine woolly. The color of a Maltipoo can - depending on the Poodle parent - vary: They are available in gray, black, white, apricot, brown or brindle.


Character and Nature of a Maltipoo

A Maltipoo is intelligent and docile, balanced and well tolerated in dealing with other dogs or animals and strangers. They are fond of children, are considered to be easy to train and bind strongly to their caregivers. With their devotion and unconditional loyalty they would most like to accompany master or mistress everywhere - which is not a difficult task due to the small body size.


Attitude of a Maltipoo

Maltipoos are very adaptable and can be kept well in a city apartment. They do not shed hardly up and look for a small place to live is always a place where they feel comfortable. The main thing is they are in close contact with their people. Maltipoos like to go walking, can their urge to move but good in the game live and also demand no sporting excellence.

A little more time should be scheduled for regular grooming. The coat of the Maltipoo needs to be brushed daily and washed regularly with a suitable care shampoo.



 Maltipoo Health Issues
